Update from the Gwent League

"Dear Dominic,

Thank you all clubs who voted in round 1, to determine which option is preferred if a change were to be made.

The most popular option was Option 2 (men and women run in different races, over the same distance of 8km).

Voting is now open for the second and final round, to establish whether this option is preferred to the Status Quo (men and women run in different races, over distances independently determined at the AGM).

There are fuller descriptions of Option 2 and the Status Quo here
www.gwent-league.org.uk/2021/GwentLeague...als-Snr+BoldDist.pdf
but please disregard options 1, 3 and 4, which have now been discounted.

Each club has ONE vote, which must come from a leading committee member on behalf of that club. Clubs may vote to abstain."

"Hi All

I have just cast our vote regarding the Gwent League proposals for the race distances.

The vote went for the Status Quo.

Club members voted;

Option 2; 14 votes

Status Quo; 16 votes

Cheers
Ron"

One wonders if there is an important lesson about understanding things here.

Communication from the Gwent League

"Voting on Equal Distances
Although unwell, the chairman has now inspected and ratified the votes cast, and it was a nail biter, with 12 for equal distances, 13 for the status quo, and 1 abstention. Two votes cast after Sunday's deadline were discounted, while votes from clubs which were affiliated to the league at this summers AGM and have subsequently paid overdue affiliation fees were included.

Accordingly, recommended race distances will be unchanged this winter.

We received votes from clubs as below. If you think there is a mistake, please contact Derek Osborne.

Aberdare Matt Jacklin
Avon Valley Richard Newman
Barry and Vale Fred Malkin
Brecon AC Derek Osborne
Bristol Benedict Westhenry
Bristol Uni Mollie Valentine
Builth Jo Rees
Cardiff AAC Mark Gold
Cardiff Uni William Phillips
CDF Runners Stewart Harding
Chepstow Dick Finch
FoD AC Alan Robertson
GWR Kelly Dicks
Les Croups Marcus Meyrick
Liswerry Sarah Lauder
Neath David Davies
Parc Bryn Bach Damian Williams
Pembrokeshire H John Collier
Penarth + Dinas Simon Williamson
Port Talbot John Davies
San Domenico Ronald Morris
Southville Tom Lacey
Swansea Brian Fox
Trots Aled Jones-Davies
Westbury H Neil Miller
White Rock Henry Wright"

I note the comment "unchanged this winter", I do so hope that we get to enjoy a vote on this subject every season because that would never get stale.
